basic paint information
paint scratch
This scratch is to big to fix with a buffer and needs to be filled with touch up paint or repaint.
light scratch
light scratches and swirl marks can be caused by improper washing, automatic car wash or anything aggressive rubbing against the car.
This can be polished out with a light cutting pad and polish.
bird dropping
Left to long bird poo can etch through the clear coat, and can potentialy be unfixable in some cases. Cleaning needs to be delicate as bird poop can contain gravel, concrete, sand, ect. that can scratch the clear coat.
This can be polished out with a cutting pad and polish then waxed for furture protection.
bug splatter
Worse than bird poop, bugs turn into hood ornaments with high impact sometimes chiping paint. If thats not bad enough some bugs can eat through clear coat in just two days and the get hard and tough to get out.
This can be polished out with a cutting pad and polish then waxed for protection.
over spray
Anything sprayed and airborne can end up anywhere on the car. It can be clayed out and back to new!
i.f.o
Industial fall out like rail dust, iron, and other pollutants can embed themselves in the clear coat and must be clayed out before any polishing should be done.
sap
Beware of parking under trees, when you return your car can look like a glazed ham. Like the rest of the contaminants it must be cleaned a.s.a.p. Too much time and it can etch through the paint and harden.
water spots
Hard water and acid rain left on paint to long can also stain and etch paint. In most cases not bad just an annoyance.
oxidation
Over time the sun can have a bad effect on clear coat. The paint looks dull and hazy, not to be confused with clearcoat peeling. Luckily in most cases it can be restored to a beautiful shine! This can be a lengthy process since it covers the entire vehichle.
